Inner and outer constraints are driving family people out of the research system. Do we want to do something about it? Can I be a good father and a good scientist at the same time? The finite number of hours has to be divided between family and work. In science, this is no different than in other career professions. But who, apart from those affected, actually considers it desirable for family life and a scientific career to be compatible?
